Irish Mist
Original Oil Painting
24″x36″

Dingle, Ireland – based on a photo by Barbara Walsh.
Irish Mist is one of my most challenging paintings. The mountainous background had to show through the mist. The rough with its’ white foam was extremely complex. The first crest had a very large wavelength creating a deep dark breaker and another rough. It was very difficult to paint the water translucent.
Irish Mist is among my favorite paintings. It is ironic that while the birds are taking advantage of the mist to wet their feathers and enjoy the water, the rocks are fighting to remain intact from the onslaught of the water. I want to make the viewer smell the salt, feel the mist on their face, hear the rush of the water, and experience the power and battering of the rocks. Can’t you imagine the rock’s strength and endurance as they resist the battle of the elements?
